The towers of San Gimignano

San Gimignano, the City of Towers, erected on a hill positioned southwest of Florence. Surrounded by 13th-century walls, the centerpiece of its historic center is Piazza della Cisterna, a triangular square lined with medieval houses. Prominent in the skyline of medieval towers is the stone Torre Grossa. The Cathedral of San Gimignano is a 12th-century church in which you can admire Ghirlandaio's frescoes in the Chapel of Santa Fina. On the top of a hill with a splendid view of the towers of San Gimignano immersed in a centuries-old cypress park, stands the Collegiate Church. Erected in 1587 by the Sangiminianesi, originally a Franciscan convent now a charming hotel.
