San Gimignano, the City of Towers, erected on a hill positioned southwest of Florence. Surrounded by 13th-century walls, the centerpiece of its historic center is Piazza della Cisterna, a triangular square lined with medieval houses. Prominent in the skyline of medieval towers is the stone Torre Grossa. The Cathedral of San Gimignano is a 12th-century church in which you can admire Ghirlandaio's frescoes in the Chapel of Santa Fina. On the top of a hill with a splendid view of the towers of San Gimignano immersed in a centuries-old cypress park, stands the Collegiate Church. Erected in 1587 by the Sangiminianesi, originally a Franciscan convent now a charming hotel. Walking down the driveway, one arrives in a beautiful Italian garden in front of the ancient building where the warm, sober tones of pietra serena match the proportions and forms of the Tuscan Renaissance style. The restoration was carried out with the intention of reviving the historical and cultural dimension of the place, in a space that welcomes guests for a comfortable and refined stay.
From the entrance one passes into the Cloister around which open the Reception Rooms, the Library, The Fireplace Room and the Coffee Room. The furnishings wrapped in the golden hues of tapestries and frescoes create environments that evoke the style of Renaissance Sienese palaces.
This little architectural gem awaits a visit that will further enhance the fullness and poetry of a stay in one of Tuscany's most outstanding corners.
